There were 4 G3 Mac Powerbook models.
The original Powerbook G3, which looks like a 5300, aka the Kanga.

Then there was the Powerbook G3 Series, aka the Wallstreet.

It has two PCMCIA slots and SCSI on the back.
Next was the Powerbook G3 (bronze Keyboard) aka the Lombard. It has only one pcmcia slot, SCSI and USB ports, and the afore mentioned bronze keyboard. (kinda brownish transparent keys)

Finally there was the Powerbook G3 Series Firewire, aka the Pismo. It has no SCSI, but does have firewire slots, and the same bronze keyboard.

The fact that it got worse after being on a longer time implies a hardware problem, getting worse as the system gets hotter.
