A very scary thing happened yesterday. First, I started hearing clicking
sounds, I guess from my hard drive. A while later, the computer started
locking up. Later still, when rebooting because of locking up, there were
chimes and the screen would go to grey, but nothing more. I put in the OS X
program CD but it didn't do anything better with that. Tried the TechTool
CD. Nothing.
Then, on reboot, I got a black screen with DOS-like text asking for ID
and password. The top line showed my name. It kept telling my password was
incorrect. That happened a few times and then the computer went back to
normal, where it is now. I backed up the hard drive, archived emails, and am
walking around it on tiptoe.
I've never seen anything like this in the 15 years I've been using Mac's
but I'm sure someone else has. Am I in trouble here? All help appreciated.
