Based, unfortunately, on personal experience, you have a slowly dying power cable. You have about 8 months (give or take) from the when the problem initially began. To avoid buying an overpriced Apple replacement part, check web sites for a replacement cable.

When you say power cable, which part do you mean ?

My adapter only has the psu with cable and the plug that
plugs into 230V, not the long mains cable.

???

My TiBook adapter failed where the line went into the plug for the book. The strain relief/flex covering isn't strong enough so it cracks and lets the wire flex at a right angle. Eventually the shield cracks and power is lost. The AlBooks have a heavier gauge wire and stiffer covering at the plug.

I lost one adapter and a second is going. I used silicone to stiffen the joint on the second. Seems to be working so far.
