The case on the G3 is nice, and though I'm not sure the target user was quite 10 years old (it's a college thing, I think), the iBook is a tough book overall. Personally, I can't see a single reason now to grab a Powerbook unless you need more real estate on your screen or more than 1 1/4 gigs of RAM. Those are the only places (other than robustness, but apparently the Powerbook doesn't buy you that either) the Powerbook seems to have a deal-breaking trump card to play.

PB has DVI out and independent video [i.e. not just mirror]
PB also has line in/out, I believe -- I know iBook lacks same..
Worth the delta? Donno...
