I disagree. His best option would be a previous generation ipod Photo - 40gb or 60gb. They won't do movies, but they have firewire. Unless Woody wants to buy a USB2 Cardbus adapter, the USB-only iPod Video and Nanos will be painfully slow to transfer over his Pismo's USB 1.1 interface.
