This is a mildly OT follow-up. Do you recall where to find the partition size
steps which result in each increment of larger block size for HFS? I'm moving
the boot and applications partitions on my Q840AV to a somewhat faster 3 GB
physical drive. I want to hit the optimal partition size/block size ratio.

As for why to partition, there's one reason. I certainly don't want my 3, 4
and 9 GB HDs any more HFS than they have to be. (Q840s can't boot from HFS+,
as you know.) But, a reason more pertinent to the G-List is to segment data
from software. When you're prone to reinstalling software (whether you're a
tinkerer or have temps using your Macs), it's much handier and faster to get
back up and running if you don't have to backup 20 GB of important data files
before you can even start. With temp designers costing $50/hr and up, every
minute of downtime counts.
