My G3 beige takes awhile to load as well, but one thing that helped was
to disable the startup memory test, particularly if your machine has a
lot of RAM. To do this press both the option & command keys together as
you select the memory control panel under the Apple menu. This will
cause the memory test option to show itself at the bottom of the control
panel. Select the off button.
As for the rest I've sort of chaulked up the slow startup to general
age....HD- wise and system software-wise. In times past I would see an
improvement when I performed a clean install of the system...I'm about
to do it again with the replacement of the HD.
