I understand completely where you're coming from kathi... Because i've been
there (the printer's wife's friend who is a designer and owns pagemaker
sending in files, or worse). You have to be a little sensitive to the fact
that they aren't ALL clueless, some of them are actually very skilled but
all they have ever known is pagemaker.

A lot of that is quark's fault and their abysmal (almost non-existant)
educational pricing.

But, I know where you're coming from... When the designer is arrogant as
though pagemaker is made by adobe so it should be used everywhere it gets
hard... As though its YOUR fault the file won't work (and they tell the
client so) no the fact that they picked a program which should only be used
for 4 page brochures being printed to a laserwriter.

A lot of it is their own insecurities than anything... They have no idea
what really happens when they hand the file off, and deep down they know
this, and don't want to look ignorant.

Most industries have something comparable... If you take web design, the
analogy would be pagemaker is to quark, as frontpage is to dreamweaver.

It's the lowered barrier to entry... I'd have to guess there are people
using final cut pro bitching about how 15yr olds with no training are trying
to create commercials using iMovie (I swear to god, I saw one on a cable
station the other night... )
