G/List Speaking of hard drives, I had the same setup as Marc with the original 6 gig and a 40 gig Maxtor both controlled by the original IDE controller on the motherboard of my PCU upgraded B&W G4/550. I was having performance slow down in OSX and Virtual PC with this setup
I was reading that the B&W IDE controller (33) is rather slow, so I purchased the SIIG 133 RAID PCI card and another 40 gig Maxtor hard drive from OWC and hooked them up in the RAID striping format. I now have a super fast 80 gig drive running OS10.1.4 and 9.2.2. This setup has helped immensely in the performance of OSX. I still use the original 6 gig on the factory controller as back up to the 80 gig. Installation and setup of the card was uncomplicated and there have been no compatibility problems from either OSX , 9.2.2 or Windows 2000. I now can run Virtual PC (Windows 2000 Pro) on top of OSX with no performance problems. An upgrade I am happy with. Dave -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
