Because it is not allowed in the computer industry to let power run through an
USB keyboard when the computer is not turned on. Apple did that in the
beginning, but stopped that later on and thus removed the power key from the
keyboard. I miss it too especially the three finger salute in the ADB keyboard
days.
Also I was looking through an American or English MacWorld magazine lately,
the April issue, and my eye fell on an advert from a company who sells a
little key which you click on the keyboard which you can use to turn on you
Mac. If you want I can dig it up for ya.
