actually, i think the original issue was that it wouldn't work through a hub, and apple didn't want to handle the tech calls just to tell people they were hosed if they used a hub. though it probably is because of the power issue, however, hubs can still respond to usb events and power up, but apple also didn't want to put a battery or capacitor in a keyboard and have to redo the design. i've got an adb adapter, and guess what, i can plug that into my hub and the power key on the adb keyboard works perfectly! however, the adb adapter does have a small battery in it to provide that functionality. (i've only used the adb keyboard when i've been drying my regular keyboard after a bath, see: "Pepsi syndrome").
