My mother used to keep our Christmas gift lists written in shorthand for the same reason you cite here. :) Someone said earlier that humans tend to be the weak link in security -- how true. This is why I choose passwords by randomly hitting a sequence of letters and numbers. I look for something totally cryptic but that I can fairly easily remember.
