i certainly prefer to deal with local sellers, or at least physical
stores when possible. however, i live in casper wyoming, the second
largest city in a state with a population less than 500,000! needless
to say many items aren't available locally or near by. actually, i'm
getting into ammunition reloading, and i'm please that all of the online
manufacturers encourage people to buy locally or at least order through
their dealer if possible.

it's certainly always best to buy locally, for the economy, so that the
store is still there when you need something small in a hurry, and
because they are often a valuable source of advice. around here most of
them are honest even if they have to recommend another company.
however, for "exotic" items, including most books their just isn't a
local source, even when you are in a big city. besides, i have allot of
somewhat esoteric interest that are hard to fill locally just about any where.

i've lived in big cities, and i did like the shopping opportunities, but
that's the only thing about living just outside casper that i miss and
it's more than made up for by the natural beauty, air quality, general
friendliness and helpfulness of local people, and the beautiful mostly
unspoiled landscape. i'm in the best place i've ever been over all.
you can only see the air here when there's a forest fire. i used to
live in denver, back when the pollution was really bad, then i commuted
in for awhile. i'll never forget driving into the green haze that you
could see approaching denver, or the way that on a bad day buildings a
block away looked fuzzy, and it wasn't my eye's, it was pollution.
