Roger Harris7/24/02 8:38 [EMAIL PROTECTED] small venues. > > R Well Roger, if Mr. Jobs were as shrewd a businessman as he's purported to be, why not take Rush up on his statement? The old put up or shut-up. Place the ads with EIB (Rush's Company) under the condition that within 12 months or 18 months the market share or sales of Mac computers must rise by X%, say 5% over what it was at the time the ads were placed. If his promotion of the Apple products fails to increase the market share or stock value by an agreed upon percentage, then the advertising costs will be refunded and Rush must agree to never make any disparaging comments about Jobs and his choice of advertising venues. Seems to me that anyone who could be so bold to make such a statement, would certainly take on the challenge. If he does what he says he can do, then what has Apple lost? Seems like a win win situation to me. By the way, Rush is heard on over 800 radio stations coast to coast and overseas. His listening audience is consistently in the 25 to 30 million+ range. Those figures are not his, they come from a ratings site that I view from time to time. That's not a small venue by anyone's calculation. Prior to these TV ads, when did you see any Apple advertising anywhere? It wasn't existent.
To get on 800+ radio stations everyday for minimum 3 hours and on some 4 hours, plus "Best of Rush" on Sat. and Sunday, and have your products hit the listening audience with clever commercials that have some humor and require a little imagination, I believe that most companies would be pleased with that type of daily exposure especially with their TV ads getting high praise as well thought out and clever, as I've read in those same media reviews. Anyway, it seems as bleak of a picture as was being painted, and the fact that no one wants to see Apple go under or sell any more of their stock to Microsoft than what it already owns, what is it something like 30% or more presently? No Mac user wants to see anything like that happen, yet working capital is important in order to keep any large corporation afloat. Mac or Apple is no different in that aspect. It's no different than their decision to charge a fee for the email, it's a necessary business decision. And look at the rancor it raised all over a measly 29 cents a day. That's what it amounts to, 29cents a day, $8.33/month, or $100/yr. and you would have thought they were asking for a fortune from the anger and contempt displayed in a lot of the posts I read on here and a few other Mac sites. If the outlook for earnings and stock value is really that bleak, then necessary steps should be taken to bolster the profits and production. That's a duty owed by any CEO to the stockholders in the company. Like it or not, it is a duty owed and one has to consider all legal and legitimate methods to promote their product. It's a simple business model used by most corporations. You get the largest bang for your advertising buck, and for 30 million plus listeners, millions of whom will follow Rush to hell and back if he asked them to, what does Apple have to lose by calling his bluff? That was another point I was hoping that someone would make, but didn't. Thanks for your post. I enjoy intelligent debate and hope that more will think about participating from that standpoint rather than ranting and raving about Rush Limbaugh. The post wasn't just about him, a few chose to make just about him, and that's unfortunate. Aloha, Ron Ward G List Nanny Austin, TX -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
