Totally agree there. I found a G3/266 in the trash (!) at work and I
upgraded it to 6MB VRAM and a G3/400 overclocked to 466 for about $100
total. RAM is cheap these days, 128MB will be enough for 9.2. The
machine at 266 was fast for work, but it is now pretty decent for a
work machine and will last me for at least another 1-2 years.

Basically, by the time the G3 DT is too slow to run the new apps. the
G4 units will have gone down a lot.

Remember the rule of thumb: use the right tool for the right job. There
is no sense in spending the extra cash for something that will be used
for word processing, mp3 playback and net surfing. A cheap beige G3
will do that for far less than a Sawtooth.

PS if you really want to save some money, get a 7500 machine, that was
my first Powermac and it was well worth it. You can get those for less
than $100 these days, bare bones. Not as fast as a G3 desktop but the
upgrade possibilities are great when you have the extra cash to put
into it.
