> Booted to OS 9.2.1, X.2 CD in CD-ROM
> Install X (Jaguar)

I don't know about anyone else's experience, but mine has been that you
can't set the OS X cd as a boot device from 9.x on a Beige G3. Put the disk
in, restart and hold down the C key.

> Boot to nothing...
> Black screen. Some disk activity then no disk activity.
>
> Remove X CD, replace w/ 9 CD.
> Boot holding C, nothing
> Boot holding the vulcan nerve pinch, nothing
> Boot holding option, nothing. (THis worked when we had the same problem
> w/ 10.1)

Option key will not work on a beige. Shut it down, wait a couple seconds and
then turn it back on and reset the pram (cmd-opt-p-r).

They don't provide terrific instructions for the Beige series. Make sure you
hard drives are set correctly for master/slave. If you only have one, you
may need to set it as a master anyway.

Also, OS X cannot boot from a SCSI CDRom drive, so if you've installed one
as a replacement for the stock IDE drive you'll have to switch them back for
the install (after which, the SCSI drive should be fine).

There are several of us on this list who have successfully installed to a
beige G3. We'll all happily give any help we can offer.
