if he wants it fast, he'll stay the hell away from the silly pentium,
the whole point is that intel's risc chips scorch pentiums in terms of
performance.  the x86 line is on life support, the fast risc chips are
what's coming next and what many truly high performance workstations
use.  it's just that microsoft hasn't figured out how to port windows
and their applications to the risc chips the way apple was able to mover
from the 68k family to the power pc.  pc's have been due for a new
architecture for a long, long time.  as far as programing architectures,
it's not that simple, especially with os x it should be much, much
easier to do development for the mac.  even microsoft's products that
run under os 9 work better on a mac than on a pc, and microsoft uses
macs for most of thier critical internal stuff, the evidence is in thier
press releases done with word, they email out the word files to the
press, and if you look inside the file it tells you what kind of machine
it was done on, and most if not all of thier press releases are done on
a mac!
