That's what I am doing.  But I'm not going to buy new hardware to run my laser
printer when the computer hardware is fully equipped to do it.  I expect someone
will write a localtalk hack for we legacy folks.  GPort seems to have done it
for their serial port hardware that fits G4s and iMacs in their modem slots
(then you need an external modem, I guess..)  I've downloaded the software. 
Maybe it will work for a native serial port too.  Haven't tried it yet.

As for printing, I can't get my usb Epson to print from Photoshop 5.5, os 9. 
The OSx HELP dialog says to set up printer sharing in the OS9
control panel  and printer sharing in the usb sharing panel of 10.2.1.  Didn't
work for me.
