I installed the drivers from the CD, applied the Oct ATI updates, installed the card, and then observed that my boot disk was rendered unbootable. I was able to boot into 9.2 on a separate disk. I removed the card and reinstalled Jaguar. I'd like to try again. Is there a trick to getting the Radeon to work on a beige G3 running Jaguar, or was I just unlucky?
Thanks, Steve Buyske --- end of quote --- Welcome to the drive strangeness in Beige. I have the Radeon installed on my Beige minitower (rom rev c) and there are no problems with power or anything like that. There are real problems booting between operating systems. My 9.2 system is on a drive on the native ATA bus along with another drive. The X drive is on a 133 ATAT card. Frequently, when rebooting into X (I need to use System Disk to do it,) I will lose both drives on the native bus. The way to get them back is to shut the computer down completely and wait a few minutes for the drives to stop. Cold rebooting into X solves the problem. Cold rebooting every time would probably be the way for me to go. Occasionally I get the little crossed 0 when booting into X which says the computer can't find something it needs in X. Usually rebooting into 9.2,then back to X solves the problem. (I have a bootable CD with System Disk and the Startup disk utilities on it to allow me to get back to 9.2.) If that doesn't work, rather than installing the whole X system again, you can boot with the X system CD ands start the disk utility in one of the menus. It seems to be able to repair this problem without reinstalling. Bummer, but it's what Beige drivers need to live with in the new X world. Hope this helps.
