update:
when I re-boot after a "non-awake", I get a boot-sequence & the extensions load
up to an audio extension -- then the system crashes.  Complaint message says
something about audio.."press here for restart".  Subsequent bootup is OK.

Problem is related to audio apparently.

I don't get it.
