Hi,
I had a similar problem as I tried to upgrade System 9 to 9.1 (I mean the
crashes, not the "bong"). The solution I adopted is to format again the HD,
install again system 9, then copy the installer and data of 9.1 on the drive
that I wanted to upgrade (instead of using the mounted disk image) and
upgrade. Then everything worked fine.
