I sent Ray an off list post because it had gotten no response
(til now that is). This is what I had sent him FWIW:

I was told a problem exists with older extensions being left
in sys fldr when 5.1.6 installs. Look in the IE folder
(that's where they now reside) & delete their conterparts
from your sys ext fldr. I believe they are Component Library,
Internet Library, & Font Embed Library.
This seems to work better but I'm not sure it's a total solution.
I have MSO 98 & it wants to run "First Run" & add older ext back
in sys folder. I'm going to try installing ext from MSIE fldr in ext
fldr & then put aliases of those in the IE fldr & see if that helps.

<< Hello folks:

I too am interested in what good or bad experience you have with Explorer
5.1. I am still on Explorer 5.0, using OS 9.2.2 on a QuickSilver G4/733. I
am not using OS X although 10.1.3 is sitting there.

With both Explorer and Netscape Communicator 4.77, I have been having
problems working with .pdf downloads from some web sites and with some of
the .pdf pages of web sites where other .pdf pages are OK. I got some
improvement with the latest Acrobat Reader for OS 9, but I still get error
messages when attempting to open some .pdf pages -- something about IE not
being able to negotiate with Acrobat Reader and do I want Acrobat to fix the
problem, which it never does. So I'm interested in whether IE 5.1 works
better with AR.

Thanks,
