Thanks for the advice. It definitely stopped the freezes but MS Word 2001 keeps putting them back in as you say, except MS Font Embed Library (PPC). I looked for an update and used MS Office 2001 SR1 Updater which didn't change any of those extensions. But so far I've not had any freezes since.
