Hmm, maybe. I went ahead and installed the OWC G4 500 processor upgrade,
following the directions very carefully and setting the jumpers to 500
(3,5,6,8,9 on). 
When I hit the power key I got five (5) tones which means, as far as I
can tell, that either the processor is not usable or a bad checksum for
the ROM boot block (the latter for pre-1999 machines according to
KnowledgeBase).

I took it out, reseated the processor, and put it all back together
again-- still five tones.

I've submitted a support request to OWC but I was really hoping to get up
and running tonight. Smack my head for not doing this during business
hours when I could call them. In the meantime, does anyone have any
suggestions on how to proceed from here?
