should it ever come up, the dos command "del *.* /r" will do the same thing, though it 
does at least prompt you, twice as i recall (i've used this command after being sure 
of what directory i was in, it only destroys everything at and below where you are, at 
least in dos...).  depending on the formatter, there is a slim chance you can still 
recover the data, if it didn't do a low level format i think you might be able to get 
some of it, worth a try.  backups are also essential if you have anything of value 
beyond email on your computer, as most of us have learned the hard way (i knew better, 
but didn't scrape together money for a cd burner until after having some cross linked 
files....)
