Hello
I am somewhat puzzled by your question.
With respect to the Restart fan noise, yes I am surprised at Apple Engineering!
A simple , engineered, set-reset flip flop and/or relay circuitry add-on in the fan motor drive chains -set to limit fan voltage ( hence limit speed runaway ) during bootup would solve that problem!
With respect to OS9, I wanted this specific model. I trashed OS9 out of my B&W Hard drives
6 months ago and all my software in now native OSX. OS9 to me is "stone age stuff"
I transfered my three Jag loaded drives( and my Pioneer A05 Superdrive) from my B&W into this box ( 2 internal and a FW external)
I used Carbon Copy Cloner to transfer my Jag 10.2.6 into the stock Seagate 80GB that came with the box.All is well on this point.
