If memory serves, the only real "one way" was older satellite connections which only came to you from the satellite. Then they came up with sat download and modem upload. Now they have sat both ways.

Any high speed connection is better than dial up. Period. I get my dial up free from an account that is assigned to a family member because he host with a local provider, so I'm not going to complain... ;)
