Does the ROM affect the power supply? What's puzzling me is why the
power supply starts the instant I plug the machine in. . .

I tried using the ROM from the other board, and nothing changed. I thought
they were "somewhat" interchangeable, just with loss of capability, like
you said.

Is there any way to tell what series ROM I have by looking at it? Can't
access system profiler with the computer in this condition.
