Automatic dialing is either available to programs or it isn't. I see these alternatives:

1) Contact IOmega support and ask them how to turn off checking for updates.
2) Uninstall the IOmega software--not necessarily an easy task.
3) Put the modem status item in the menu bar and manually dial whenever you want to be connected.
4) Don't worry about it and let the IOmega software dial when it wants to.

I'm back with the same problem.

Did you turn it off under PPP options in the Network control panel?>

Where do I turn it off? If I uncheck the block which says connect automatically when needed, then it doesn't come on when I need it.
