It doesn't seem possible, but a Cox tech told me they run 110 through the line for the telephone... bleedover?

I certainly hope not, or else your ethernet port, and your Mobo, probably, is a crispy critter.

However, what it *sounds* like is that your power manager got all screwed up; the 'power light', an LED can remain lit from residual power in various capacitors for some time after the cord is unplugged.

This happened to me on a troubled G4, IIRC, letting it stay unpowered for a bit, hitting the reset buitton coule of times, then plugging it back in unconfused the thing.

I did some checking after posting about 110 and discovered this link (http://www.lectro.com/tech_articles/powering.asp) that indicates either 60 or 90 VAC in most systems. The subject came up with the Cox installer when I told him I was in the habit of stripping phone wires with my teeth! :) He suggested it was not a good idea....
