All of the major makers produce cameras that will give you great quality pictures. The one big criteria for me with any digital device is the ability to use a standard battery. The ability to shove standard AA batteries in a digital camera has saved me more than once when stuck in out of the way locales.

Most cameras that take the lithium CR-V3 should also take standard AA batteries. In fact, I see that more and more makers are planning to offer the feature of using standard lithium batteries like we are used to with film cameras. 2CR5, CR123, CR-2 etc.. comes to mind.
