You need xpostfacto to install Panther on a Beige. Look for the latest version
on the OWC website and follow the directions exactly. Check back here if you
have any problems.

Also take note of these important requirements and limitations:
PCI video card support by Panther. Onboard video on the beige is not yet (last I checked) supported. You *will* need another video card if you haven't got one already.
Ram. I have a beige 300 with 320 megs. Although it is useable, it is no speed demon. Thankfully it's a very stable machine, and most of what I need fits comfortably in ram, allowing things to be a bit snappier.
No L2 cache. XPostFacto *somewhat* supports L2 cache on *some* chips. However, this is not the case with the majority, so expect a performance hit until the code is fixed. I'd say about a 20-30% decrease in overall performance.
With that said, a beige machine can make a good Panther machine, but not a *great* one. Bus, drive, and memory costs currently limit it's potential, not to mention the price of upgrades to correct those issues. After much debate, I've come to the conclusion that "shaman" (the beige 300) will be nothing more than a kitchen appliance or tricked out PVR (with a little cash), but I have no aspirations of building it out to be a fast workstation when compared to pricing a better, pre-configured used G4.
Of course it's just my opinion, and I could be wrong :)
