I just stripped a B+W shell down to the metal. To remove those center
clips, from the inside I just squeezed them together with a pair of
pliers. I can see the difficulty though where if you can't get at the
inside of the shell because parts (eg: logic board) are still in the way.
BTW, a bare B+W form-factor box is a pretty cool looking piece of
industrial design:

Apple didn't spare expenses on this sheet metal from what I can see, the
quality of just the bare shell is much higher than most of the complete
PC boxes I've seen.
I think I'll build up a working bare B+W. I'll make a matching steel face
insert to cover the optical drives hole, and metal hoop handles ala G5.
