I am hoping to make the transition soon from a G3 upgraded 7600 to a Beige G3 minitower I got at a local auction. I expect to tweak a lot of things on it to improve my functionality in OS 9 and to get OS X operable as an interim solution on my desktop machine until I can get a newer Mac. My beige G3 minitower is technically a Macintosh G3 Server. It is the REv. 1 version of the motherboard. It has had a 500 mhz chip upgrade put in it, the stock drives for now (a 24x IDE CD-ROM and a 4.5 gig SCSI) and has 384 megs of RAM. It came with all three PCI slots filled - with an Apple SCSI card in slot A1, an ATTO Express SCSI PCI Pro in slot B1 and a faster ethernet PCi card in slot C1.

In this particular post I want to focus the discussion on my options for video in this machine. The Apple System Profiler says it has 6 megs of VRAM. The card/chip is a Mach 64 in slot F1.

ISSUES:
First, where is slot F1? Is this an upgradeable slot like the PCI slots? The video connection seems to be wired into the motherboard but there is a slot next to the three RAM slots I couldn't figure out the purpose for.

Second, what video options will work for this machine? If nothing else I will probably move my VooDoo 3 2000 card from the 7600 to the Beige G3 when I am ready to make the transition. I would need to free up a PCI slot. If I wanted to spring for another one I could get the 32 meg Radeon PCI card or the 64 meg Radeon card. Anything else I should be considering?

Finally, I would be glad for any general suggestions or warnings as I work through this issue.

If you need further info, I play some games but don't expect to be able to play the latest/greatest. I have a 19 inch monitor and could add a 2nd 17" monitor if I really wanted to. Beyond that it is basic internet and office work for me.

I appreciate any advice anyone can offer on this subject.
