If you reinstall it into the OS X Applications folder and apply all of the updates, I think you'll find it works better than it ever did in OS 9. Printing is orders of magnitude faster, for example... Note that, depending on when you got your copy, the ID 2 installer may have problems. It's a good idea to download all the updates and patches *before* you get started.
As for Photoshop, the best solution is to upgrade to version 7 or 8. The improvements since PS 4, alone, make it worthwhile. In the meantime, I think I'd search the Adobe and OS X user forums for possible solutions to your problems with PS 4 under Classic. If I didn't find the answer, I'd install PS 4 under Classic in a new location (not reinstall over the existing copy).

I'm moving slowly into OS-X but living in both worlds because a lot of my apps are still OS-9, and it would be plenty expensive to upgrade them all at once. So I've tried running many of them in OS-X's Classic mode, but it works rather crummy a lot of the time. InDesign 2, for example, which works perfectly well in 9, won't even launch in Classic--- a message just pops up that says "Adobe Indesign can't verify the serial number. Please reinstall Indesign." And I've been reading here about some of the bad things that can happen if you install an OS-9 app in the Classic mode, right?, so I don't. And Adobe Photoshop 4, well, that one opens in Classic, and I can use the tools, but I can't always save the changes, or do a "save as." When I try, a box often pops up that says "Unable to save because the file has been left open" or something of the sort. Of course the file is open, you stupid panther, I'm working on it.
Anyway Classic seems to be full of bugs like that. To work in my old 9 programs without trouble I have to boot back into 9, and half the time 9 itself will hang right after all the extensions load and I'll have to force a restart. It's irritating, living in this half-world.
