DVD-ROM in external enclosure

I would find it odd that an external firewire DVD would not work.   I 
have a pioneer 104 DVD-RW that I put in an old firewire box and it 
works great.   Furthermore, there is now a patch out there called 
HPfurz that allows me to select the external DVD as the target drive 
for iDVD so now you can use iDVD with an external burner. 
(apparently this is an option in iDVD that is unactivated by the 
programers).
