The Beige arrived yesterday and despite what the seller and the Apple info. I looked up stated about having built-in SCSI, there is no SCSI card and I found no SCSI bus in ASP. It showed Internal ATA 0 (hard drive ID=0) and Internal ATA 1 (CD-ROM drive ID=0). I would think these would be on the same bus. The only card I see is the "personality" audio card.
There is, in fact, a SCSI bus built into the beige. ATA 0 and ATA1 are two different busses. SCSI won't show unless there's something there.
Pop the cover and look at the back where the drive cables plug in. There will be three 50-pin connectors in the (as you look at it from the front) back right hand side of the Mobo. Two of these are the ATA busses, one is the SCSI bus. (they say ATA0, ATA1, and SCSI next to them on the Mobo)
This connection is shared with the external scsi connector, so termination can get rather voodoo-ish, but should be manageable. Multi-ended scsi chains are perfectly legal, just tricky to get terminated correctly.
The built-in video must reside on the mobo since all I can see is the chip with ATI 3D Rage II + DVD. Does this mean it will support a CD/DVD - RW upgrade providing any other required extensions are installed ?
Yes and no. It depends on the version of the OS. 10.2.6 on up supported my Toshiba DVD-R/RW-CD R/RW, but I also have a radeon card to support DVD playback. I don't know about internal video and DVD playback.
