I have a Plextor 708A DVD/CDRW writer (8x DVD and 40xCD), It's simply the bestfor the money and they have great support at least here in Europe, and You can update the firmware in OS x Terminal (I did it and wrote a HowTo including all files as a NoteTaker [.ntx] document, if You are interested, email me).
