The KVM switch gets its power from the USB port :-( It does not have a separate power supply...

Bring up the Mac, the KVM switch gets it's power from the USB and takes a second to boot. The Mac does not recognize the monitor and comes up headless.
Get a better KVM.
Or throw out the PC. You don't want its cooties on your Mac.
