Have recently noticed that the stock DVD-RAM drive in my AGP Graphics G4 will mount CDs and video DVDs fine, but will not mount data DVDs. Is this a known shortcoming of this drive, or has anyone else had this problem and overcome it?
DVD-RAM is incompatible with DBD-/+R/RW disks. DVD-RAM is a different format entirely, and one, unfortunately, that lost out early in the DVD format wars.
Newer Superdrives might read DVD-RAM disks; if so, this is likely the best solution to the problem, they're reasonably cheap nowadays.
