I�m a white man, but I don�t care for the term because I�m black Irish and I have a friend who is African American�but he is a white man from Johannesburg, South Africa. I�m from Philly and I�ve been on the wrong end of racism many times. His disclaimer shows an intellectual curiosity and an awareness that his absurdity may rub some sensibilities the wrong way. My hope is that we can all look past our own preconceived notions and give others the benefit of the doubt where any presumed differences are in play.
