My son sent me a couple pics from a pc in Baghdad but I can't seem to find an application that recognizes them. I have tried Preview, Graphic Converter and Adobe apps..... He says they are not AOL pics so I don't know what will open them......
What is the extension at the end of the file name? Frequently the extension gets mixed up. For example, if the file is named photo.jpeg or photo.jp sometimes just buy changing the extension to jpg will allow me to open the file. Try that on a copy and see what happens.
Could he have sent you a file in the camera's raw format? If so, you may need to see if the camera manufacturer offers a tool to view the raw file format, or convert it, for the Mac.
There is also the possibility that the files are hopelessly corrupted. If none of the above helps and neither Graphic Converter nor Adobe apps can open it, that may be a real possibility.

ps. email me off list if you want me to take a crack at opening or converting the photos for you.
