Haven't found that. That's what finally pushed me to an ATA-card boot disk in my beige, I got a DVD burner, and needed 4G of empty space for the image.

As usual, (thinking can be dangerous sometimes) question generated. The OSX 8Gig partition limit, is that for SCSI disks as well as ATA/IDE?

Start backup attempt ---

Insert blank CD, name it, drag folders from HD folders. ERROR MESSAGE -- there are files that you don't have permission to copy. ( I'm the ONLY user). Figure I'll enable 'root' and work from there.
Did the 'root' enable routine. Log Out -- Log back in as root. Started the backup routine again!
Insert blank CD, name CD, drag DH folders to target CD, SAME ERROR MESSAGE

Then it isn't, strictly speaking, permissions issues. More likely the file is locked because it's in use.

Makes sense! I was trying to do a backup of the boot volume.

All I've got to do, is boot from something else!!

What are you trying to back up?

(and as an aside, you don't want to be logged in as root routinely, aside from the normal 'root' issues, many things in OS X don't work right.

That I'm very aware of. For a long time. The original OS9 (Radio Shack MC6809, Color Computer. Linux and now Apple OS9.1 & X

Root was NOT active and was only being tried to solve that particular problem. (Haven't gone in and turned it off yet though. (need to do that)
