--- You wrote: I've heard that there are video CDs that play short movies. --- end of quote --- Video CDs are very cool. Tbey have been popular in Asia with commercial ones sold everywhere. They are burned on regular, cheap CDs.
Using mpeg1 compression, you get 74 minutes of video with high quality sound. The video is surprisingly good, with the worst feature being picture break up when there is a lot of motion between frames. Like an audio cd, you can put 99 tracks of video on a VCD and switch tracks as you would audio. Many modern DVD players will play VCDs. A variation is SuperVCD which uses mpeg2 compression like DVDs. The quality is supposed to be very good, but you are limited to about 20 minutes of video (?) I've never burned one so I can't say. Fewer players accept them than VCDs, but lots do. Check the docs of the player. Toast Titanium would be the software of choice, I think, for either format. Also, many of the new standalone DVD recorders will burn VCDs and SVCDs. But they don't interface digitally with computers or DVD players, so your transfer would have to be analog (RCA or Svideo cables.) Still, it's probably ok given the limits of VCD. Hope this helps.
