Two/Three answers, imo, fwiw.

First is that at $400, the Mini is still a steal, especially if you like
digital video at all. You buy, quite simply, to get a Mac -- with iLife,
Firewire, etc. Imagine a 2.8 GHz mini. Nice, ain't it?

Second is that Apple has used pretty top-of-the-line components and features.
Have you seen better 802.11* reception than what you get with the iBook?
Expect, again imo, etc, to see a phat chip in that iBook with some great
components relative to other computers at the same price. (I hope.)

Third is me cheating, but let's assume this means Mac prices drop. Now we're
getting somewhere.

Hey, I'm perplexed too, to say the least. My iBook G4 performs just fine.
This is certainly an appease-the-power-users kinda thing afaict. But if this
is what it takes to kill the sorry excuses we hear in the megahertz "myth"
conversation, I'm all for it

And it's got to help people port games (and other apps!) to the Mac. That's
going to be another nice fringer.
