How are we going to explain to Joe and Jane Sixpack why
they need to spend the extra money on our beloved Macs? Is
Steve Jobs going to turn Apple into another NeXT - software
only? If so, it seems to me he runs the risk of turning OS
X into another OS/2. Consider this
conversation:
Buyer: "So this new $300 Dell comes with Windows right?"
Seller: "Yes."
Buyer: "And to get OS X I have to spend another $130?"
Seller: "Yes."
Buyer: "Why should I spend another $130, more than
one-third of the
cost of the computer, just for an OS?"
Seller: "Uhh....."
I just don't get it.<<

You actually think that's a hard sell to explain why Mac OS
X is better than Windows in this example???
We'll ignore, for the moment, the snottiness that is dripping from your
email. This time around I'll give you answers to your questions.
I think that Joe and Jane Sixpack don't care how bad Windows is. Years
of experience have trained them to think computing can't be any better
than it is on Windows. With Apple's Macs running the same CPU, it will
be harder to sell Joe and Jane on a Mac. Or on OS X, once someone
figures out how to run it on a non-Apple motherboard.
How long have you been a member of this list? ...and why?
I've had Gx-based iMacs and PowerMacs for nearly 4 years now and have
been on this list for quite a while. Why does it matter?
