It's best if you start your platform from the OSX install CD and
then=20
run the disk utilities. That way none of the HD is being used and a=20
more complete check can be done.
Also if errors are found and corrected, the disk utilities should be=20
run again and again until a clean pass has completed. As some
problems=20=
can be hidden by other problems and when a disk error is discovered
and=20=
corrected the process is not restarted from the beginning.
It is best to run some of the disk utilities from the install CD, but
not Repair Permissions. The CD does not know what permissions on the
hard drive are now the correct ones. You have to run Repair
Permissions from the hard drive or volume that you are checking because
there you have all the applications and other software that has been
installed and which the CD does not know.
