Each IDE drive comes with a set of pins that identify it as Master, Slave, Single, or - on newer drives - Cable Select. Cable Select lets the computer communicate with the drive to automatically set itself to Master or Slave status. The G4 towers are capable of Cable Select, but most older machines will not work correctly if the drive is set to Cable Select. If you're installing a drive in a Performa, and it isn't recognized by the Drive Setup utility, then most likely the Cable Select jumper is set. ---------------------------------- >> Perfect answer.
