In my quest to move up to a G3 MT from a Performa 6360 (400mhz NewerTech

Only $50, so couldn't pass it up.

I am planning to install Jaguar on the drive so I partitioned
it into 4 parts, one of which is 7.6GB, which I "think" is the
first physical partition, though I really don't know how to tell.

When you partitioned it in Disk Utility, you divided the big rectangle into four parts. The one at the top is the first partition.

On the Desktop they may be listed in a different fashion depending on how your desktop is organized, and where your startup volume is.
