Oh, Mac on Intel has been a rumor for far longer than that,

I would have been very surprised had the rumors NOT been true. I mean, NeXTSTEP and OPENSTEP were both ported to x86, and Apple publicly kept up the x86 port during the transition to Rhapsody (OS X Server v1.x). It would have been surprising for them to have just ditched the x86 port once OS X Server went commercial.
